Excursion in the area

In the center of France you will find Camping La Chassagne in Ronnet, Allier department. To the south and east, the municipality of Ronnet borders the Puy-de-Dôme department. These two departments are both located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The Creuse department is located west of Ronnet. The three-department point is located at Saint-Marcel-en-Marcillat (15 minutes from Ronnet). The descriptions that you can read below concern, for example, cities, rivers, châteaus or museums of these three departments.

Near the camping site is the pirate forest with the little river La Tartasse. The children can build huts and dams here.

You can enjoy the Gorges de La Sioule. The river La Sioule meanders through a spectacular rock gorge, which offers several beautiful panoramas, including the medieval castle of Chouvigny.

The Romanesque bridge, Pont de Menat, not only spans La Sioule, but also almost two millenia.

Montluçon and Montaigut have medieval centers. The city of Montluçon was once a fortified town. The old citadel stands as a witness to this era on a steep hill in the center.

Néris-les-Bains and Vichy have thermal baths. Both places have been spa towns since Roman times. You may already be familiar with the spring water from near the city of Vichy in bottled form.

The medieval village of Charroux is beautiful to visit.

Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule is a nice outing for the wine taster.

There are several museums nearby including Mupop (pop music through the ages) in Montluçon, the regional museum in Marcillat-en-Combraille and an archaeological museum in Neris-les-Bains.

The Parc des Volcans, the volcanic area in the middle of the Auvergne, where you can walk through craters in a landscape full of extinct volcanoes, of which the Puy de Dôme is the most famous.

There are many hiking and biking trails where you can enjoy the surroundings. Bicycles can be rented at the tourist office in Neris-les-Bains.

Viaduct de Fades near Les Ancizes-Comps is one of the highest railway viaducts in the world designed by Virard Felix.

In the summer, flea markets, festivities such as medieval parties, music evenings and fireworks shows are regularly organized in nearby villages and towns.

There are several lakes near La Chassagne where you can fish with a permit.

Saint-Eloy-les-Mines, about twelve kilometers away, has a plan d'eau, where you can swim, fish and surf.

The rivers La Sioule and Le Cher are ideal for canoe trips. There are various rental addresses.

A challenging climbing area can be found in Lignerolles, eighteen kilometers from the campsite.

There are swimming pools with a slide in Commentry and Saint-Victor.

The Saint-Priest-des-Champs waterfall can be seen after a short walk.

You can climb the trees at Le Parc Aventure Natura'Bosse in Echassières with tree walks and ziplines.

Château Rocher, Château Chouvigny, Châuteau de l'Ours and Château d'Hérisson are examples of beautiful ruins and castles. From the campsite itself you can view the medieval tower of Ronnet from the 12th century (le donjon circulaire sur motte).

Birdwatchers and Lepidopterists can indulge themselves in and around the campsite.
